Unique Christian Fiction

Cameo Courtships is a wonderful and fascinating read that has history, family, love and Faith all wrapped up into a fantastic book.

Book Synopsis  from back of book

I was hooked right from the start of this book because of how unique the concept of following a cameo through 4 womens lifes and how it helped them find true love. Each woman has a distinct personality so it makes it very interesting to follow from one woman's experience to the next. It all wraps up in a fast, fun, romantic historical read of faith, family and love. I was so glad that each author made the recipient of the cameo her own woman and personality. They are all strong women with strong convictions and Faith. They are not looking for love but it seems to find them. Is it because of the cameo? You will have to read the book to find out. From journalist to frontier woman to detective to librarian each woman is tenacious, capable, strong and strong willed, but also loving and strong in faith. I really enjoyed this book, each and every story.

If I found anything to dislike it would be that there wasn't more. I was not ready for the journey to be over at the end of the book.

If you are looking for a good historical fiction with a fresh unique take on a story, then you will want to definitely read this book.

One line from the last story really stuck with me when Russell said:

"But as your pastor reminded us, we are not constrained by our pasts . We are valued, not only for what we are now, but also because we are beloved of Christ"

I hope you will get this book and read it. It is a wonderful fun experience.

Long Time Gone 5 Stars

Long Time Gone by Mary Connealy is another great western by her which is a mixture of romance, action, faith and love of family. She weaves a tale that ropes you in and pulls you along with the Boden's as they face danger from unknown people. They don t know who they can trust and neither does the reader until it all unfolds.
I love a good western with cowboys, wilderness and a strong woman or two. This book has it all. The Boden's are being attacked and they aren't sure who is after them or why. They have to rely on each other, their faith, and all the while trying to lay a trap for the ones who are after them without anyone else being hurt or killed.
Justin, Cole, Heath and Sadie find an unlikely, but yet strong ally in Angie who is really a city girl with no country skills.

I found this book to be a wonderful mixture of action, humor and strong relatable characters. One of the favorite things in this book for me is to see how Angie finds herself and the  strength she didn't think she had.

If you like a good book, with fun strong characters, a lot of action and a message of family, love, faith and strength then be sure to read this one.

I received this book for my honest opinion and review.

History, Mystery and Romance Wrapped up in One Great Read in Fire and Ice by Mary Connealy

Fire and Ice Wild At Heart Book 3 by Mary Connealy is a great mixture of Romance, History and Mystery.

Bailey Wilde is the last of the Wilde sisters to still be single and have her own homestead. She is tough, strong and very independent but when her sisters with their husbands leave and she faces a lonely winter it makes her realize that maybe she does need someone else around. So when Gage suggests she marry him to help him out of a spot of trouble she agrees but on her own terms. Can they make it work and can they also find out who is trying to kill Gage while they are at it?

This is a book of love, faith, forgiveness, and mystery  all wrapped up in a great story of one woman's journey. Bailey Wilde has to learn to forgive herself and others so she can learn to love. She is a strong independent person which I like. I think of her as being like Annie Oakley. She has courage, strength, and is smart too which I like in a character. This is one of those books that you just want to sit and read with no interruptions.

If you like historical romance mixed with a mystery and has strong characters then don't miss this one. Even though it is the third book in the trilogy it can be read as a stand alone book which I like but reading it will make you want to read the other two books about the other Wilde sisters.

Mary Connealy has a way in her writing that makes it easy to picture and relate to her characters and their surroundings. She has another great book you won't want to miss.

Faith Courage Overcoming A Good Study in Brave Enough by Nicole Unice

Brave Enough by Nicole Unice is a great resource and reminder that with Jesus we can find the courage to face whatever comes.

This book is a fast read but one you will read and want to absorb and put into practice. It explains that our courage to overcome fear and our failures is only through a relationship with Christ. It is worth taking time to read and study this book to help you to find your courage.

Well written and such good information. Have a pen ready you will want to make notes but the author also has thought provoking questions to answer also. This would be a wonderful book to use in a women's small group at church.

One of my favorite statements was, " Jesus gives energy where we lack it and strength where we are knee-knockingly weak." Pg 12
Another is, " Acknowledging that we need grace is admitting that we have weaknesses we can't fix." Pg 56 and " Many of us are settling for good enough when God is looking for brave enough." Pg 57

This is a book that helps us look to God and not let fear rule us while giving us steps that will help us let go of those fears and let us be what God wants us to be.

This is a great book to read and reread.

A Big Hit In This Fun Roller Coaster Ride Romantic Book In Good Company by Jen Turano

Cover Art

In Good Company by Jen Turano is one of the best Christian Romances I have read in awhile. I laughed and cried and fell in love with Millie the Nanny and the kids. This was such a fun, wonderful emotional story of love, faith, and growth into a better person. I can not say enough about how good this book was.

Millie is a Nanny that has a way of getting into mischief because she loves and enjoys the children she is caring for. Against the high society standards she let's the children be just that children having fun which is not acceptable. Everett has just become guardian to three mischievous and unhappy children when their parents died and as a last resort and out of desperation he hires Millie to be their Nanny. The children have met their match in Millie and so has Everett.

If you are a fan of a fun historical romance that includes a little bit of mystery and that draws you into the roller coaster ride of emotions then you will love this book as much as I do.

Hunting For A Good Read Hunt No More Here It Is 5 Stars For Pirate Hunters by Robert Kurson

Pirate Hunters by If you are hunting for a good book hunt no more just pick up Pirate Hunters by Robert Kurson. This book is more than just hunting for a pirate ship it is a way to learn more about Pirates and the Golden Age as well as the people who hunt for their treasure and wreckage. All I can say is WOW!

This is a journey of two men John Chatterton and John Mattera who have a love of history and finding more about the history of a dive besides the treasure. It takes us through their struggles in methods for searching as well as how they came to be looking for the pirate and his ship. This book is more than just a search for treasure and a pirate ship it also gives you an understanding and a glimpse into the pirate Joseph Bannister and what made him become a great pirate. When you are finished with this book you will see that there is more to the man and his strategies and learn more about the true pirate ways. This book is a journey that keeps you reading and wanting to know more. I loved learning how they go about doing all their research and the drive of finding out more and holding a piece of history as well as making a name for themselves in history,. This is a book that anyone who likes history, is intrigued by the age of pirates or wants to know more about the search for sunken ships and the men who search for them, then you must read this book. I have to confess that after reading this book I had to delve into researching from the internet about Joseph Bannister and his ship the Golden Fleece because the book piqued my interest to learn more.

This is a fast paced easy to read book. I was greatly surprised by this book and how it moved along. It has adventure, suspense, history, intrigue, and Pirates what more can you ask for in a book. I highly recommend this book. Don't pass is up or you will miss out on one of the best books you can read.

5 Star Mystery in The Cemetery Club

The Cemetery Club (Darcy and Flora Cozy Mystery) by Blanche Day Manos & Barbara Burgess is a great cozy mystery that mixes faith, mystery and family along with suspense that leaves you on the edge of your seat and wanting more.

Darcy has come home to her mother’s after the death of her husband. When her mother Flora along with Darcy find the body of Flora’s good friend Ben at the cemetery then things get really interesting  and dangerous for Darcy and Flora. Can they find out why and who killed Ben before more people are killed or the killer succeeds in killing them?

Darcy and Flora remind me of my daughter and me. We have a special bond and it seems we can always find ways to make things interesting. I think I could feel right at home sitting in their kitchen sharing stories while drinking coffee. That is part of the charm of this book, being able to feel like you know them and could be right in the middle of this mystery helping them solve it as well as getting in trouble right along with them. I like that the book keeps you guessing. It is one of those books that you don’t want to put down but then when you get to the end you wish there was more. It has just the right mix of suspense, faith and family. I give this book 5 stars and would highly recommend it to others.

I think one of my favorite quotes from the book is, pg. 38 “Trust God, Darcy. He knows the end from the beginning.” This is a very comforting thought. And then another favorite was “To her way of thinking, in all times of stress, coffee helped.” Pg. 48. I so agree!

I loved this book. I think that anyone who likes a good mystery, with twists and turns will want to read this book. I can’t wait to read the other two in the series.

Through the Deep Waters by Kim Vogel Sawyer A Must Read Book

 18310162

Through The Deep Waters by Kim Vogel Sawyer is a good book of hope, forgiveness, and redemption, mixed with love. Kim Vogel Sawyer once again, with this book, reminds us that God loves us and wants to forgive and redeem us.

Dinah has as past that she wants to forget and tries to run away from. She believes she is unlovable even from God. She thinks of herself as broken.  She is very courageous to start out on her own to try to make something of herself but is looking for redemption in the wrong place. We can relate to Dinah in that sometimes we let our past sins become our present stumbling blocks which keep us from God and living the abundant life He has for us. Amos on the other hand has physical limitations and his family thinks of him as broken because of his bad leg that limits him physically. He has a big heart and is a strong willed man of faith who steps out in faith to make his own way.  I find that I can relate to both of them easily while reading this book and watching them overcome and grow which reminds me that we can all learn and grow and are only limited by what we let limit us.

This is a very good book that is not only a good read but is a good book of encouragement and a reminder to the reader that God can heal the broken and loves each and every one of us just the way we are. We don’t have to change us, or be good enough, like Dinah thinks, for God to love us. He loves us and wants to give us forgiveness for our sins and to help us move on from our past mistakes.

This book is a story that shows us how God wants to Forgive, Erase, Redeem us from our past, walk with us in the present, and give us a wonderful fantastic future through Him. I would highly recommend this book and give it 4 ½ stars.

Wonderful Novel Found in A Table by the Window by Hillary Manton Lodge.

A Table by the Window by Hillary Manton Lodge is a fantastic book about family, love, faith and a family mystery. I found myself relating to the dynamics found in Juliette’s family. The rivalry and bond between siblings and the closeness of the family reminds me of many families I know. This book takes you on a search to find out the family secrets that Juliette’s Grandmother has kept from the family all these years and only discovered on her death by Juliette when she inherits her Grandmothers prep table. This is a great book for anyone who loves family history as well as a mystery, romance and fiction lovers.

The people in this book could be yours or my family and are easy to relate to.  I could so relate to how Juliette and Nico feed off each other and when they decide to open a restaurant together the big brother Nico has to listen to little Sister Juliette even though sometimes his I am your big brother attitude tends to cause trouble between them. Juliette also has to learn to listen and trust her own heart and what God has planned for her instead of taking the safe way and do what the family and others think is right. She has to be strong and step out in faith to be happy and find true love with Neil even over her families objection of a long distant relationship not working.

This book is a journey to find truth. Truth of her Grandmother’s life and who the mysterious man is in her Grandmothers past. Truth to find out what is best for Juliette, truth of what she wants when it comes to Neil and the restaurant. It is also a book of forgiveness, family and faith. This book when I got to the last page made me want it not to be over. I can’t wait till the next book is out to read it. I found myself saying NO it can’t be done, I don’t want to wait to find out more of the family secret, more of what happens between Neil and Juliette and more of how the restaurant goes.

I have to say when I first start reading this book I wasn’t sure I would like it and it was a little slow but after a few pages I was hooked and could not put it down. This is a must read for anyone who likes Christian fiction, has an interest in genealogy, loves a good mystery and likes food. This book has some good recipes included.

I give this book 5 Stars and will be getting book two .

Mystery, Love and Tension Equals 5 Stars For With Every Breath by Elizabeth Camden

 Cover Art

With Every Breath by Elizabeth Camden is a great mystery and love story. I wasn’t sure that I was going to like the book and the first few pages moved a bit slow but after that it was great. I loved the tension between Trevor and Kate. The bickering and snarly remarks added with the need to compete and outdo each other just added a measure of realism to the story. I know I could relate to the two of them. They had a mutual respect for each other and yet even though they disagreed they seemed to bring the best out in each other too.  Dr. Trevor Kendall is trying to find a cure for TB and he asks Kate to come work with him as his assistant. She finds that there is more to Trevor than what she knew when they were in school together. When Trevor’s past catches up to him and someone is out to ruin him and his work to find a cure for TB then he finds his clinic, his research as well as his reputation on the line. Kate tries to help him find out who is doing this to him, I love how she is like a banty rooster when someone tries to discredit Trevor and destroy his clinic. One thing for sure is this book is great for those who like a good mystery, who likes romance and if you like history and medical mysteries you will love this book.
There is also a great message about following God’s calling for you and moving on from your past. Kate has lost her husband and she guards her heart from being hurt again. In doing this she is not trusting God’s plan for her and her life. She is living in fear and missing what God has put right in front of her. Trevor shows that even at a high cost to himself, he is going to continue to do what God has called him to do and strive to find a cure for TB. Trevor has to learn to forgive and not let his past hurts tarnish the good in his present or future. There is a very subtle lesson being taught here to trust, forgive and follow God in all parts of our lives. This is an exceptional book and one you won’t want to miss.  I highly recommend it.

Faith, Courage and Heroism All Found in Out of the Depths by Edgar Harrell

Out of the Depths: An Unforgettable WWII Story of Survival, Courage, and the Sinking of the USS Indianapolis

Out of the Depths by Edgar Harrell is a true story of faith, courage, and heroism. This is a book about the sinking of the USS Indianapolis in WWII where out of almost 2000 men only 317 survived and what the survivors faced waiting to be rescued. This is Edgar Harrell’s story of what happened and how he was in the water waiting to be rescued, relying on his faith in God to make it through his ordeal.

I was captivated by the heroism shown in the face of such horrendous circumstances and how hope was found in clinging to faith in God, Edgar Harrell tells his story and the others that survived with him from before, during and after the sinking of the USS Indianapolis, including the cover up and the making of Cpt. McVay the scape goat for the sinking. It is well written and easy to read and also told in a way that is not too graphic, but at the same time the reader is able to understand and picture the ordeal the survivors faced while in the shark infested water waiting for days to be found and rescued.

This is a book that those who love history, especially military history will want to read. It is also for those who want to read about how your faith in God can and will see you through any circumstance. It is a book about strength, courage, heroism and faith in the time of one of the worst tragedies of the NAVY during WWII. I would recommend this book to be added to your must read list of books.

One of my favorite line of the book was when Edgar Harrell realizes the ship is sinking and he is facing death and he prays and calls out to God, “I knew within my heart that God was answering my prayers and was going to see me through. As the finite security of the great Indianapolis slipped away beneath my feet, the infinite security of the Almighty bore me up and gave me peace-a supernatural peace promised in His Word” pg67

A Treasure Found in the Reading of Rebekah's Treasure by Sylvia Bambola

20665950
Rebekah's Treasure by Sylvia Bambola is a wonderful addition to any library. It is 70 A.D. and Jerusalem is being taken over by the Romans and the Jews are leaving to escape being tortured, killed or made slaves. It is written from the view point of both Rebekah, who is sent away by her husband from the Temple and Jerusalem to keep her and her daughter safe, and  her husband Ethan who stays to fight with his sons and try to save the Temple. It is a remarkable book about love, faith, family, and perseverance through a tumultuous time for the Jews and Jerusalem.

I loved this book. It leads you on a journey seen through the eyes of Rebekah that takes her to a new life with the believers of Christ in Pella. She is a strong woman whose faith sustains her through all she has to face in the new town while her sons and husband are in danger fighting to save the Temple and Jerusalem from the Roman's who are taking over and destroying everything and everyone. It is a emotionally charged book that you get swept up in right along with Rebecca and her family. It also is well written from Ethan's point of view showing how devastating and brutal the struggle for the Jews were in trying to keep the Romans from overrunning Jer4usalem and Killeen all the rebels and Jews that are still living there. It shows the strength of the Jewish people and their perseverance in the face of the enemy.

If you love a great emotional,  action packed, faith building, historical novel then you must read this book. It is a great insight into the struggles and devastation the Jews at the hands of the Romans as well as rebel factions of Jews.

Rebekah and Ethan each have what they think is the treasure they have to  save, but in the end they find the true treasure isn't in objects and the journey to realizing this is one we can all relate to in our life.

I was moved by this book and it was a journey that I am glad I didn't miss. I can not recommend this book enough. I hope you will get this book and read it and join me in finding a true treasyre of a book.

Amazing Read The Proof by Cheryl Colwell

The ProofIf you want an amazing, suspenseful, good read you must pick up and read The Proof by Cheryl Colwell.

I really wasn't sure what to expect when I got this book. I was afraid that it would be a let down to read but boy oh boy was I wrong. Cheryl Colwell knows how to spin a story and make you want to go along with her on that roller coaster ride. She has a way of painting a picture with her words that makes you feel like you could step right into the palazzo or library right along with Gabe and Louis, or the cave when they are looking for the relic.  You feel Gabe's hurt when he has been betrayed by those he thought he could trust as well as Louis' pain when he thinks Gabe has rejected God. One plus to this book is how Cheryl Colwell takes you back to when the relic is first given to the Dolcini ancestor to take back and to protect. It adds an extra depth to the story that makes you understand how important the quest and relic are. This book keeps you intrigued and captivated to the very end and the twists in the plot and then the ending is a surprise and one that you will not see coming. I loved the book and would recommend it to all who love a good thriller and mystery.

That is not all this book is though. Yes it is a mystery thriller but it is also a book of Faith, forgiveness, redemption and love. Gabe is fighting the demons and hate from his past. He has made some really wrong decisions and now self doubt, self loathing and hatred for how his father  abused him and treated him has driven him to Italy and his Grandfather. Gabe finds a Grandfather that loves him but also wants him to help him on the family  quest to find the relic that the family was entrusted to keep safe centuries ago. Gabe gets caught in the middle of this  quest and all the danger that goes with it. He is also taken back when his Grandfather shows him forgiveness and love, he can't really comprehend this until he lets go of his anger and hate. It is also about Gabe's  quest to end his anger, hate and let go of the hurt so he can truly love and accept God's forgiveness and love.

This is definitely a book you won't want to miss reading. I highly recommend it and give it 5 Stars.  People who like a  thriller that involves the Templar's, Dead Knights, the Soci and true Believers in God mixed with a quest, love, Faith and mystery then you have to read this book. One plus to this book is how Cheryl Colwell takes you back to when the relic is first given to the Dolcini ancestor to take back and protect. I adds an extra depth to the story that makes you understand how important the quest and relic are.

Powerful, Moving Story of Redemption and Forgiveness The Fight By Luke Wordley My Review

The Fight by Luke Wordley is one of the most powerful, moving excellent books I have read in awhile.

Sam is a boy that is full of hate and anger. His father is dead and his mother is an alcoholic. Sam is always getting in fights and his anger is out of control. Jerry is a boxing trainer and he has demons of his own to overcome. When Sam gets into a fight with some skinheads and Robbie rescues him he takes Sam to his gym where he is a boxer and Jerry his trainer. Jerry, is a believer but when he starts training Sam some of his old emotions, anger, and demons come out and his faith his shaken. Sam and Jerry both think they will find what they really wan t through boxing but the peace, contentment and happiness they seek is not in boxing but in God. Will they come to realize this before it is to late for either one of them?

When I first started to read this book I didn't think I would like it because I know nothing whatsoever about boxing. I just knew it would be a book I would struggle to get through so I could review but boy was I wrong. This book is about so much more than boxing. It is about redemption, forgiveness, finding true peace and love. Sam struggles with his anger and hatred that is turning him into a mean, destructive killer if he doesn't get it under control. His hatred is what drives him and he is never happy. Even though you don't want to, you find your heart going out to him and hoping that he will find a way to control himself and to be happy. Whether you think you would or not you find yourself in Sam's  corner willing him to win over his anger and hatred and to find the peace and love he needs and deserves.

Jerry finds himself questioning his faith after he loses control of his temper like old times at one of the boxing matches. He questions whether God really changed him or not and struggles again with his anger and depression. He wants to be the top in the boxing world and wants to achieve this through Sam because he thinks he will be happy and his family will be happier and financially secure. He wants to achieve what he couldn't when he was boxing. He thinks fame and fortune will bring peace and happiness. He puts God on a a back burner. You find yourself, or at least I did, identifying with Jerry in letting his past come back to haunt him and slipping by putting other things before God. This book shows the downfall of doing this but also how God waits on us to find our way back to him and how the Holy Spirit speaks to us and helps guide Jerry, and us, back onto the right path.

I was amazed at all the side stories that added depth to this book like Sam's mothers and her struggle. Her's is a story of desperation and then forgiveness. Also Gloria, Jerry's wife, and her past come into the story to help show God can forgive anything which is what Sam's mother needed to know.

I will now admit that I am so glad I didn't pass this book up thinking it was a guy's book because of the boxing theme. Yes it is about boxing, yes it is a great book to give to the men in your life and yes every woman should not pass it up because it is a beautiful story of redemption, forgiveness, love and finding yourself, along with true peace, happiness and God's unconditional love.

I loved the book and hope that you will give it a shot, you will be glad you did. Make sure you have time to read it because you might not want to put it down and also have Kleenex close by. Another plus to the book is the discussion questions at the end that would be great for book clubs, small groups or families.

5 + Stars to Crash the Chatterbox by Steven Furtick

Crash the Chatterbox by Steven Furtick is a must read for anyone, but especially for everyone that has ever doubted themselves, questioned if they are worthy, wondered if God really had a purpose for them, or had problems with low self esteem. Steven Furtick takes us through steps to overcome these feelings and how to quiet the voice or as he calls it the chatterbox in our head that tells us we can't or we aren't good enough and not worthy. This book looks at scriptures and leads us in ways to crash the chatterbox in our minds.

I loved this book. It is a book that really can change your life. I would recommend this book to everyone. I think it is a must read for everyone that has had these doubts but also for those who know someone who deals with low self esteem and doubts. I think everyone at one time or another had thought these things about I can't, I am not good enough, I am not worthy, ect. its normal at one time or another to feel this way but Steven Furtick in this book helps us look at how we don't have to believe or even listen to these thoughts and feelings. He doesn't just tell us to stop listening but shows us how to. He uses some of his own experiences to demonstrate how he too has dealt with these thoughts and feelings and shares what God has shown him to help him to realize these thoughts are not true. He gives us Bible verses to use to help us too but more than that he assures us that these thoughts of unworthiness are untrue. I can not say enough good things about this book and can not stress enough how it can help you in your daily life as well as your walk with God. I plan on reading this one over and over again and share it with others.

One of the quotes from the book that really spoke to me was, " But insecurity is much more than an extreme lack of confidence. In some ways insecurity is the ultimate insult to God. Because when we allow insecurity to override God's purpose in our lives, we're implying that He didn't quit get the job done when He put us together."pg 23 Ouch that really hit home for me to think every time I think I can't or I am not good enough I am insulting God.

"Condemnation reminds us of our wrongs by showing us our shame, but the Spirit convicts us of our sin by reminding us of our righteousness in Christ". pg 153 Wow

Last one that really struck home though the whole book did, "If you are a believer who hopes to accomplish the will of God for your live- and go to the next level spiritually- you have to defy the inertia of internal discouragement to get there.
you cant let the chatter stop you. You have to keep rolling . And God says you can." pg 168-169
Awesome Keep rolling God says you can says it all if God believes in me then I should too.

This book is great for a Bible Study or Small Group and Steven Furtick has included questions in the back to help in your study.

I hope you will go and read this book and us it to learn to listen to God's voice over all others, it will help you in your Christian walk and life.
