5 Stars for Searching The Scriptures Find The Nourishment Your Soul Needs by Charles R Swindoll

Searching the Scriptures Find The Nourishment Your Soul Needs by Charles R Swindoll gives you the ingredients and recipe for getting more from your Bible.

If you ever struggled with studying the Bible not knowing how to start or how to apply what you read then this book is for you.

I loved this book. Charles R Swindoll has provided, with this book, a way to really study and apply the scriptures. He explains that  just like us planning to nourish our bodies we need to nourish our spiritual bodies through studying the Bible. This book explains how to get started and how to get to the meat of the scriptures. The author helps you  apply what you are learning with exercises for you to do also.  I am planning on going through this book as I start my study in 2017 again of the Bible and I know that from the knowledge I have acquired in this book I will really reap the benefits of my study.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to do more than just read the Bible. It is a book for those who want to study, learn, apply what they learn and grow in their walk with God.

I received this book from Tyndall Publishers for my honest opinion and review.

Excellent Study Book on the Bible and Connecting with God

The Touchpoint Connecting With God Through The Bible by Bob Santos is an excellent study book to help you embrace the Bible and to learn more about God. It  explains that the Bible is much more than a rules book but it is a way that you can know God more intimately and to have a better relationship with Him by understanding Him better. One of my favorite chapters was on Old Testament Prophecy.

You know at times we all have struggled with reading and studying the Bible but this book helps us realize the Bible is more than just a rules book and history book.  Bob Santos shows us it is our way to a better relationship with God. Just like we need to communicate with each other we need to be in touch with God and the Bible is our way to do that.
The author statement " The more I understand about the Bible, the more I appreciate its beauty, unity, and yes, even complexity." And also "Although once a skeptic, I now believe, along with a multitude of others, that the Bible is the most amazing book ever written." Pg 19 are so true and in reading this book he shows us the truth in these statements. His chapter on Cracking the Book was exceptional because goes through our excuses for why we don't read and study the Bible. He also gives tips on studying. In the chapter wrap up he says, "What we get out of the Bible depends on the effort we put into mining it's truths."pg222
I highly recommend this book, it is well worth reading.

If you want to get more out of your Bible study, learn more about God and form a more personal relationship with God then this book will help. This would be a good small group book to study.

I will be reading this book again.

Reservations For Two by Hillary Manton Lodge Pure Delight 5 Stars

Reservations For Two by Hillary Manton Lodge is the wonderful sequel to A Table By The Window.
This book is just as delightful as the first one and a must read.

This book starts off where the first one left us but can be read as a stand alone with no problem. Juliette finds herself in a relationship with Neil, trying to get a restaurant running all the while finding out more of the family secrets and helping her Mom who is ill. Can she juggle it all, what secrets do the past hold and where does Neil fit it?

I find this book to be fun, fascinating and true to life, in that how life has twists and turns and secrets from our past, but that is what makes US. This author has a way she takes on a ride that reveals how wonderful family, but also how mysterious our family past can be and  all the while wrapping it up in a wonderful book of family, faith, intrigue and love. If you like a good, enjoyable, book and are a fan of books that have faith, love, romance, food, family history and a good plot with wonderful characters you won't want to miss this book or series. I highly recommend it and I don't think you will be disappointed. I loved this book. I am really looking forward to reading the next book.

5 Stars for Incubation by Laura DiSilverio A Fantastic Fantasy Read

I reread this book before starting book 2 in the trilogy and I loved it just as much as the first time. Here is my review.

Incubation book 1 in the Incubation Trilogy by Laura DiSilverio is a futuristic dystopian fantasy book that is believable and hard to put down. It keeps you in suspense and on the edge of your seat as you run with Jax, Wyck and Halla to escape with them from the Kube. It is a fast moving and suspenseful read and whether you are a young adult or an adult you will enjoy this read.

The world is not the same since the great epidemic. Children are taken from their famly and made to live in a Kube and taught what the Pragmatists, who are the powers to be, want them to learn to go into careers they chose for them. They have no choices but what is chosen for them. This is where the story gets interesting because Jax doesn't know who her parents are and she desperately wants to. Wyck doesn't want to be made to be in the military and Halla is pregnant with her boyfriends baby and doesn't want her child taken from her since they didn't have permission to have a child. This is what leads up to the three of them running from the Kube. Will Jax, Wyck and Halla survive? Will they achieve what they set out to achieve? What kind of trouble is waiting for them? These and other questions is what this book will explore and take you on their journey to survive and get away.

This is a fast paced, futuristic and believable book about a dystopian society. It keeps you guessing and rooting for Jax, Wyck and Halla.  It is a nail bitter at times and emotional at other times. It is a very good read for adults and young adults. If you like sci-fi futuristic books you will want to read this book and series. I highly recommend it. If you were a big fan of Hunger Games then I think you will be a fan of this one too. I  can't wait to read the next two books.

Wonderful Intriguing Journey

The Hidden Treasure Of Dutch Buffalo Creek by Jackson Badgenoone is a wild interesting adventure that you get caught up in while feeling like you are learning with James. It is a fantastic read. It not only explores different experiences of history but also is a learning and growing experience in faith.

I highly recommend this book.  It makes you stop and think and is written in a very unique way.

One of my favorite parts is when it is telling how Father Tom tells about the importance of a name " He made a strong point: Whenever God calls someone, He calls them by name." Wow it was a pivotal important message for Mimi but also for me when I think about how God called me by name.

This is a good book that would be wonderful for a book club or small group discussion.

Sizzling 5 Star Mystery in Grilling The Subject by Daryl Wood Gerber

Grilling the Subject (A Cookbook Nook Mystery) by [Gerber, Daryl Wood]

Yee Haw another great book in  Grilling The Subject A Cookbook Nook Mystery by Daryl Wood Gerber.

Crystal Cove is having a Wild West Festival where you can find wild west theme fun throughout the town as well as at the CookBook Nook where Jenna has cookbooks for all kinds of BBQ and Katie has rustled up some really spectacular bbq western themed recipes that make your mouth water. BBQ, rides, races and all sorts of fun is happening but then when Jennas father's neighbor, the trouble making, land grabbing, irritating Sylvia Gump is murdered and Cary Hart Jennas father is the number one murder suspect then things become unsettling and interesting. Jenna has to clear her father and find out who murdered Sylvia, which could be a number of people who she has made mad at her, before someone else ends up dead and her dad ends up in jail. Can she rope the  killer, prove her dad innocent and insure that the cookbook nook keeps up with the wild west festivies?

This is probably the best book in the series so far. Each one has been good and each one has been better than the last. It is a fun, fast paced, but not predictable mystery that I really enjoyed. It is so easy to picture being in the small town of Crystal Cove and enjoying the Wild West fun and festivities. Coming from a city that has BBQ festivals I really could picture being right in the middle of all of it with the smell of smoking meat and bbq in the air. Then there are the  characters that could be friends of mine and who doesn't want the eccentric intuitive Aunt Vera as part of your family. The all around theme, small town, mystery and characters make this a book you won't want to miss.

If you like a good mystery that has unique characters, an interesting plot and enough surprises and suspects to make it not the usual predictable mystery you will want to read Grilling The Subject.
It also has mouth watering recipes like BBQ muffins, which I can not wait to try and bbq sauce recipes  included in the book and who doesn't like that.

I highly recommend this book and give it 5 stars. It is the 5th book in the series but it can be read as a stand alone if you haven't read the  others. Really though I would recommend  reading them too.

Don't miss out on this book you will enjoy.

Zombie Parade, Festival, Hurricane and Murder What More Could You Want In Killer Takeout by Lucy Burdette

Killer Takeout-1

Killer Takeout A Key West Food Critic Mystery by Lucy Burdette has a festival with a zombie parade then mix in a hurricane and a murder and what more could you ask for in a cozy mystery. This is a fun fast paced mystery that  keeps you guessing and wanting more as you read it. It also includes recipes.

Key West is having it's annual Fantasy Fest with good food, fun parades, crazy tourists and a King and Queen. When one of the royal court is murdered Hayley the food critic who writes for Key Zest tries to find out what happened and to keep her friend Danielle out of jail as the lead suspect in the murder. On top of all the festivities there is a hurricane headed right for Key West to add to the confusion and troubles. Will Hayley be able to help her friend Danielle out of trouble and find the real reason for the murder and the person who committed the murder while trying to stay safe during the festival and storm?

Lucy Burdette gets you wrapped up in the festival fun with her descriptions of the parades, zombies, food and all that makes up the festival. She helps paint a picture of all of it and then throws you into a mystery that keeps you guessing on who the murderer is with  twists and turns and plenty of suspects. She then adds the extra tension of a hurricane bearing down on all the activities and island and it just adds to the suspense of the whole story. You get swept up in all the hub bub of the festival and it just adds a dimension to the whole mystery.  I could just imagine all the fun and confusion that goes along with the whole atmosphere of the festival then to have a murder committed in the middle of the zombie ride where everyone is moving and dressed as zombies adds an element that is unusual to the plot. This is a really good book that I found kept me guessing and wanting more. I can not wait for the next installment in the Key West Food Critic Mysteries. Oh and the recipes at the end of the book are yummy and a plus.

I recommend if you like a good culinary unique cozy mystery then you will want to read this one for sure.

Fun Study and Easy to Apply Having a Martha Home the Mary Way 31 Days To A Clean House and a Satisfied Soul by Sarah Mae

Fun Study and Easy to apply Having a Martha Home the Mary Way 31 Days To A Clean House and a Satisfied Soul by Sarah Mae

What a fun and easy to follow study for anyone whether you struggle with cleaning or not. I didn't know what to expect when I first got this book I was worried it would make me feel incompetent and guilty for not having a perfect house, this is not the case though. This is a way as the author says
" Each day there is a reading designed to encourage you, inspire you, get you thinking and get you energized. There is no judgment; this isn't boot camp."pg 11 Sarah Mae uses Martha the older sister who takes care of the home, and family no nonsense sister and Mary the younger emotional one who has a heart of faith and is wise in her own way. Each day the author gives us a Martha Challenge and a Mary Challenge to complete and each day. There are scriptures to read and things to get you close to Christ so preparing your heart, which is the Mary Challenge and then there is the Martha Challenge which breaks down the cleaning tasks into things for each day to help get your house in order. This is a fun wonderful book that helps to plan out your day and take time to spend time with the Lord.

I enjoyed going through this book and found it to be useful. I think even someone who thinks they don't need the help in planing an d cleaning will find this book useful just for the Bible time. I really think this is a good book to study and would be great for a small group setting. I would recommend this to all.

I think this would be a wonderful gift for a college student to a newly wed. I think even someone like me who has grown children and been married for over 40 years can get something helpful out of this book. I hope you will give it a try.

Edge of your seat suspense in Girl On The Run by Daryl Wood Gerber

Edge of your seat suspense in Girl On The Run by Daryl Wood Gerber

Chessa has everything a job she loves, a loving husband a dream home or so she thinks. Her world turns upside down when she comes to and finds her husband dead by her and no memory of what has happened. Things go from bad to worse when party goers from the Fairytale Ball she planned are found in a meadow massacred. Chessa finds herself the #1 suspect  in the murders and all she can think to do is run. She escapes and goes on the run because she has to try and remember and figure out what has happened and to prove she is innocent? Can Chessa remember what really happened before she becomes another victim? Can she find the truth all the while trying to avoid being captured by the police until she figures this all out and oh by the way is anybody or is anything she thought she knew just all been lies?

All I can say is WOW. This is an action packed riveting thriller. It keeps you guessing right along with Chessa and the police. I like that it is a fast moving plot but one that is not hard to keep pace with. It is an edge of your seat page turner that draws you in and one that you won't want to put down. It has an unique spin on the murders one that has many possibilities for who done it which makes for a good read. Daryl Wood Gerber has a hit with her first suspense,  one you will want to make sure you buy.

Fun, Magic, Just A Good Cozy Mystery

Crime and Poetry a Magical Bookshop Mystery by Amanda Flower is a great new series. I just loved the book and would love to  sit in the Charming Bookshop and enjoy the atmosphere while reading.

Violet hurries back to Cascade Springs, her hometown she swore she would never return to, thinking her Grandma Daisy is ill. When she arrives though she finds Grandma is not sick at all but just wanted Violet to come home and stay to take over the bookshop as its caretaker.Violet is shocked when her Grandma explains about the mystical shop, the tree, and how the books gives the caretaker messages and now Violet is suppose to be the new caretaker and the books will talk to her. Wow she has trouble wrapping her head around all that Grandma tells her. Not just that but she is surprised to  find how devious her Grandmother had been to get her to come back. She vows not to stay but that changes when Grandma Daisy's friend Benedict is found dead by Violet in his carriage in Grandma's driveway the next morning and Grandma seems to be the number 1 suspect. Violet has to overlook her past in Cascade Springs, the past that made her swear never to come back and   help find who really killed Benedict and prove her Grandma innocent before she leaves. What is Violet to think and how can she prove Grandma is innocent before something happens to her or Grandma and soon so she can get back to her life in Chicago?

This is an excellent surprising mystery with strong characters and plot. Violet is a smart, strong willed and independent woman which is always a plus in a mystery,  Grandma Daisy is cunning, smart, loving and someone everyone loves. These are two women you would want to be friends with. I like that the Mystical bookshop is an important part to the plot. I could just curl up in a corner of that shop and live there. Who wouldn't want to have a shop that is mystical and the books give you messages what could be greater than that? You also have the good looking intelligent yet kind police chief, Chief Rainwater as well as many suspects.

I can not say it enough I loved this book.  One of my favorite lines is when Grandma is explaining to Violet about the history and mystery of the bookshop and that she now is its caretaker,
"You are the Caretaker. You are to care for the tree and shop now. The books will speak to you now." pg 64 also "Not everything in this world makes sense, you only need to believe it. You are the next Caretaker." pg 64
If you enjoy a good mystery that keeps you guessing with a surprise or two, strong characters, add in a mystical bookshop then don't miss this one. Amanda Flower has another hit with this one.

History, Mystery and Romance Wrapped up in One Great Read in Fire and Ice by Mary Connealy

Fire and Ice Wild At Heart Book 3 by Mary Connealy is a great mixture of Romance, History and Mystery.

Bailey Wilde is the last of the Wilde sisters to still be single and have her own homestead. She is tough, strong and very independent but when her sisters with their husbands leave and she faces a lonely winter it makes her realize that maybe she does need someone else around. So when Gage suggests she marry him to help him out of a spot of trouble she agrees but on her own terms. Can they make it work and can they also find out who is trying to kill Gage while they are at it?

This is a book of love, faith, forgiveness, and mystery  all wrapped up in a great story of one woman's journey. Bailey Wilde has to learn to forgive herself and others so she can learn to love. She is a strong independent person which I like. I think of her as being like Annie Oakley. She has courage, strength, and is smart too which I like in a character. This is one of those books that you just want to sit and read with no interruptions.

If you like historical romance mixed with a mystery and has strong characters then don't miss this one. Even though it is the third book in the trilogy it can be read as a stand alone book which I like but reading it will make you want to read the other two books about the other Wilde sisters.

5 Stars For As Gouda As Dead by Avery Aames

This is one of those books you can read and savor more than once. This is my second time to read it and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time.

As Gouda As Dead A Cheese Shop Mystery by Avery Aames is one you won't want to miss. The series just gets better and better with each book and this book is no exception. It is a great new addition to the series you won't want to miss. It has some great recipes included.

Love is in the air at Providence and every one is caught up in the festivities. Charlotte and Jordan are getting married, couples have come to take part in the Love festival activities so what could go wrong? Murder has a way of putting love on the back burner.  Charlotte has to help the police chief solve the murders so that things can move forward. Can she help solve the murders or will her snooping get her into trouble, will she become the next victim?

I love this book. It was a page turner that makes you not want to stop until you have finished it. I love the way you  can picture the town of Providence and the people. This could be a small town that is familiar to you and the people are so relatable. I know that some of the people in this book remind me of people I know and can relate to. This always is a plus when reading a book relating to the people and place. Who doesn't know a quirky Grandmere or a snooty control freak like Belinda Bell or Paige Alpaugh. I also like that Charlotte is a strong, clever, smart, and loving person that adds to the book. I love that the mystery winds around with twists and turns and multiple possible suspects that keeps you guessing till the end. I have to say I thought I had this one figured out but was surprised at the ending which always is good. I give this 5 Stars and can not wait to read the next book.

Family, Faith, Forgiveness all Wrapped Up in a Good Emotional Story

The Daughters of Jim Farrell by Sylvia Bambola takes the reader into the world of Pennsylvania Coal country in 1873. It tells the story of the three daughters of a man Jim Farrell who want to clear their Father's name, a Father who had been wrongly, they were sure, of murder and hung. It tells of the struggles of  his family trying to survive by making their home a boarding house and all the while living with the shame that comes with their Father's hanging. Kate, who is bitter from what has happened, decides to talk her sisters into finding out what really happened and clearing their Father's name. Trouble starts for the whole family when the investigating starts. Will they be able to find the truth before more people get hurt? What will they find and will it help at all?

This is a very fast moving, good story of love, family, faith and forgiveness. It also is one of finding strength through your Faith when things are tough. The struggles of the coal miners and the greed of the railroad for this time period plays an important part and adds to the story in a big way.

I enjoyed the book. I loved how the characters all grew in their faith, maturity, and strength. It was an eye opening book to the conditions found in coal country in 1873, I found the song Tennessee Ernie Ford use to sing "I owe my soul to the company store" come to mind when reading this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a book with history, faith, love wrapped in a good plot.

A Story of Love, Faith, and Discovery in Anne of Green Gables My Daughter and Me by Lorilee Cracker

Anne of Green Gables My Daughter and Me by Lorilee Cracker is a funny, emotional story of love, faith, discovery, and forgiveness all by weaving  the stories of being an orphan,  it is the story of the  author, her daughter and how their stories were the same as  Anne of Green Gables in so many ways.

If you are, or know someone who has been adopted you will want to read this book for sure. The author takes you on the ride through life of the highs and lows while explaining the emotions one feels on being orphaned and adopted.  It is a wonderful book that gives the reader insight in an unique way of all the feelings that happen when a child has been orphaned, adopted and how to move on. It is also about a journey to finding oneself and where they fit into God's plan and life. If you ever have felt like you weren't good enough or felt like you were on the outside looking in then read this book and see how the author found her way through these same feelings.

It is a good book and even though I never read Anne of Green Gables, I know I must be one of the only people that hasn't, I still loved all the parallels the author shows you in her own story and her daughters. I found that at times the book moved slow but it is well worth hanging in there and moving past those slow spots. I think it is a story that needed to be told and the book is well worth your time to read.

Faith Courage Overcoming A Good Study in Brave Enough by Nicole Unice

Brave Enough by Nicole Unice is a great resource and reminder that with Jesus we can find the courage to face whatever comes.

This book is a fast read but one you will read and want to absorb and put into practice. It explains that our courage to overcome fear and our failures is only through a relationship with Christ. It is worth taking time to read and study this book to help you to find your courage.

Well written and such good information. Have a pen ready you will want to make notes but the author also has thought provoking questions to answer also. This would be a wonderful book to use in a women's small group at church.

One of my favorite statements was, " Jesus gives energy where we lack it and strength where we are knee-knockingly weak." Pg 12
Another is, " Acknowledging that we need grace is admitting that we have weaknesses we can't fix." Pg 56 and " Many of us are settling for good enough when God is looking for brave enough." Pg 57

This is a book that helps us look to God and not let fear rule us while giving us steps that will help us let go of those fears and let us be what God wants us to be.

This is a great book to read and reread.

A Big Hit In This Fun Roller Coaster Ride Romantic Book In Good Company by Jen Turano

Cover Art

In Good Company by Jen Turano is one of the best Christian Romances I have read in awhile. I laughed and cried and fell in love with Millie the Nanny and the kids. This was such a fun, wonderful emotional story of love, faith, and growth into a better person. I can not say enough about how good this book was.

Millie is a Nanny that has a way of getting into mischief because she loves and enjoys the children she is caring for. Against the high society standards she let's the children be just that children having fun which is not acceptable. Everett has just become guardian to three mischievous and unhappy children when their parents died and as a last resort and out of desperation he hires Millie to be their Nanny. The children have met their match in Millie and so has Everett.

If you are a fan of a fun historical romance that includes a little bit of mystery and that draws you into the roller coaster ride of emotions then you will love this book as much as I do.

Intense Edge of your Seat Mystery in Moonlight Can Be Murder

Wow is the only thing I can think to say about this great book Moonlight Can Be Murder A Ned McNeil Mystery by Blanche Day Manos. I loved this book and I can not wait until the next one comes out.

Nettie McNeil gets a letter from her Uncle Javin after he gets out of prison that he wants her to come to her home town of Ednalee, OK because he needs to see her and strange things are happening. She goes and when she gets there she was looking forward to seeing him again but was terribly surprised when she finds him shot and dying. Now she is thrown into a murder and has to find out who killed her Uncle and why before she is next.

Nettie or Ned for short is a very level headed, strong willed and determined woman who is wants answers into what is happening and who murdered her Uncle. As a reader I immediately connected with her and was drawn into the mystery right along with her. I love the old Victorian home and land, it adds a dimension to the mystery and is such a important part of the story.  I could just picture the house and wished to be sitting right there with Ned and her friends in front of the fire  or at the kitchen table helping solve this mystery. I love a good mystery and this one is just that .

This book has so many possibilities and trying to tie all the loose ends up makes for a great puzzle to solved. I really thought I had this one figured out but then found I was only partly right and the why escaped me to the end.

This is an intense and at times emotional mystery. I could not put it down. If you like a good mystery, that keeps you on the edge of your seat and one that is full of possibilities and suspects then do not miss this book.

One of my favorite parts is when Ned sees a white figure head into her carriage house and decides to once and for all figure out what is going " Fear gave way to curiosity and a rising anger that someone or something would trespass and find it necessary to sneak around in the dark instead of coming to my door. "Please Lord, I whispered, "Protect me and help me find out what is going on." pg 148

Anger overcomes fear I can so relate to this.

Don't miss this great, spooky, intense, wonderful book. I highly recommend it.

Good Mystery is found in Death of a Bad Apple 5 Stars

Death of a Bad Apple  A Food Festival Mystery by Penny Pike is a five star read.
I really enjoyed this book. It has all the right elements suspense, romances, a good puzzle and many suspects to choose from.

Darcy helps her Aunt Abby with her food truck in San Francisco but when Aunt Abby signs them up for an Apple Festival in Apple Valley Darcy is ready for a little fun. Besides the food, vendors, and hay maze Darcy, Aunt Abby, Jake and Dillon find themselves in the middle of a struggle between the GMO company, arson fires and now murder. This festival is proving to be more than they bargained for. Festival, Apples, Fun and Murder, Darcy gets right in the middle of it all  and she ropes the others into helping her solve the mystery of why and who is behind it all and who knows how it will all turn out?

This is one of those books that keeps you guessing. Just when you think you have it all figured out then it changes course and you have to put your thinking cap back on and try to figure it out again. I love a book with a good puzzle that keeps you guessing to the end and this book is just that.

If  you like a good mystery, strong characters and a good plot within a plot, with a little romance thrown in, then you will enjoy this book.

This is the third book in the series and even though I had not read the other two I find that I didn't get lost in this one. I will however be going back to read the other ones now because I am a fan of the series after reading this one. I would recommend this series and book to others. Oh yeah and don't forget there are recipes too, who could ask for more.
